ABC, new music up late

Last night on New Music Up Late: Off the record: Cor Fuhler, presented by Julian Day.

You can listen again to the program via the above link if you press "listen again"

A modern day renaissance man

Cor Fuhler is hard to pin down. He's known variously as a jazz pianist, a composer, a maverick instrument builder, a gamelan performer, noise musician and occasional turntablist. What binds these contrasting activities is a restless sense of exploration and a healthy sense of humour. Cor's list of projects is dazzling and includes collaborations with John Zorn, Sonic Youth and Keith Rowe among many others. Cor recently moved from urban Amsterdam to leafy Sydney where he and Julian caught up.

SSL at Old Darlington School

new music network

What is Music!
Sonic Systems Laboratory
Date: 3.30pm and 6.30pm, Saturday 8 December 2012
Where: Old Darlington School, Maze Crescent, Darlington, Sydney
Robbie Avenaim (percussion)
Dale Gorfinkel (percussion)
Chris Abrahams (piano/electronics)
Cor Fuhler (piano/electronics)

This program features Robbie Avenaim and Dale Gorfinkel from ‘SSL’, joined by Chris Abrahams (piano/electronics) and Cor Fuhler (piano/electronics). The extended SSL ensemble combines traditional and extended techniques with physical modification of the artists’ instruments. The group will employ various motorised percussive mechanisms alongside traditional instrumentation, and in so doing, will have access to greater scope for both composing and improvising. This is an integral part of the compositional process of the group and represents a collective effort to build better relationships between mechanical devices and improvisers.

Date: Saturday 3.30pm & 6.30pm, Saturday 8 December 2012
Where: Old Darlington School, Maze Crescent, Darlington, Sydney.
